Gost Glock - Ghost ring sights I've always been interested in, but never had the chance to really mess around with - until recently when AMERIGLO sent me a pair of Glock Ghost Ring Sights that fit the Glock 17/19 platform. I chose these particular sights because I don't see them very often, and I'm genuinely interested in whether they offer any significant advantages or disadvantages over traditional three-dot or hook-and-post sights. For reference, I selected a pair of AMERIGLO GL-325 Ghost Ring Sights and used them on a Glock 19 Gen 4 pistol.
The GL-325 Ghost Ring Sights come in a small package and are very simple to install. If you've never installed Glock sights before, there are tons of YouTube videos online showing safe and effective ways to install them, or if you want to take the easy way out, you can always have your local Glock Certified Armorer install and install them. Drive them right to you.

The tritium in both the rear and front sights was very fresh and began to glow in the early evening before the sun had fully set. Aiding visibility are the really impressive green outlines of the front post, and this single feature can be both a boon and a bane in my opinion depending on the situation. After the sights are seated and slid, it's time to take the rig to the range and see all the rage about ghost ring sightings.

My trip with my friend Tom was enlightening to say the least. Along with the Glock 19 with ghost ring sights, we also brought a Glock 34 with black-out rear sights and a small red fiber front sight to compare and contrast the two styles. While this isn't an apples-to-apples comparison, it's the best we can do with the equipment we have, and I think it's enough to show the shooter the significant and simple difference the two sight styles make.
Even if not perfectly centered, the green dot inside the ring means you are likely to hit your target - tested at each extreme end of the inside of the ring, the spread as seen on the target is only 3 inches in diameter. Down (range ~4-5 yards)
The first thing I noticed when aiming the AMERIGLO Ghost Ring sights was that it looked exactly like what you'd see from a Leupold Deltapoint micro red dot sight (but without the added bulk). Because of this I can shoot more confidently with both eyes open regardless of distance. I think what's going on here is that when the ghost ring is combined with the rear sight the bright front post acts more like a "point" than the post, making it easier to shoot with both eyes open. I was able to produce fairly decent rapid fire groups using both eyes at distances between 3 and 10 yards.
What surprised me and my friend was that the time from draw to target decreased when using the eyes and ghost ring sights. Although I've never used them before, aiming the gun feels a bit more natural due to the 'circular circle' look, as opposed to more traditional sights that require 'equal light equal height'. Be on target. The best comparison I have for this is that it's like putting a pair of A2 iron sights on your pistol, but with a brighter front sight, which makes aiming faster than a standard sight configuration.

At close range (I consider myself in a defensive situation), the AMERIGLO Ghost Ring sights performed admirably. At this distance I was able to shoot quickly and consistently to aim and maintain reasonable accuracy. Despite covering these distances, I found myself with a lot of diminishing returns. At more than 10 yards I found more traditional hook and post sights to be more accurate. What's happening here is that the rear fork sights provide your front sight post with a solid 3rd reference point of where your front post should be. Although ghost ring sights have two rear tritium dots to reference the front dot, this system is not as accurate as a conventional sight picture.
Overall, I'd say these are great sights you can plan to use for sports like production class steel competition or for handgun or home defense applications. As with any good sight and firearm, you should probably buy a pair, set them up, and train and practice with them before using them in your everyday carry or home defense situation, as the pros and cons I've listed here may or may not resonate. with you
The biggest takeaway I've found here is that, while not practical for long-range sights when you're up close, ghost ring sights can give you many of the benefits of a red dot sight without worrying about batteries. It seems like everyone and their mom is upgrading their Glock with fancy parts until there's almost nothing left of the original gun, and that's not even including the 80% of builds that provide a blank canvas for customization. While these projects may garner a lot of likes on social media, sometimes we wonder how many of them are safe queens or temperamental toys.
As preparedness-minded people, we like to go the distance like any other red-blooded American, but we want our firearms to remain practical and reliable for real-world defensive use. Function over form is not really our thing. We want to know that we can keep that gun handy in case of an emergency and that it will go off every time we pull the trigger. Anything else is a fun novelty for people with low disposable income to enjoy.

So what are some upgrades we could add to a simple Glock 19 that would improve functionality without compromising reliability? We started by looking at the slide and barrel, as these parts can easily be replaced with stock parts if we want to go back to the original configuration. They offer more notches to capture the slide, tighter tolerances for improved accuracy, and they allow for the addition of an RMR or other micro red dot optic, as well as a suppressor or compensator. And of course, they make a nice cosmetic change.
You may recall our recent review of the Gray Ghost Gear Gypsy Backpack. The guys at Gray Ghost are getting big in the firearms market with parts and complete pistol and rifle builds under the Gray Ghost Precision brand. In keeping with our aforementioned search for G19 upgrades, GGP offers slides and barrels for several Glock models. Stripped slides are available for G17 Gen 3 and Gen 4, G19 Gen 3 and Gen 4 and G43.
Gray Ghost Precision G19 slides are machined from American-made 17-4 stainless steel bars and have tighter tolerances than OE Glock slides. Each slide is finished with a durable black nitride coating. Each features an RMR red dot cutout and comes with a GGP logo G10 plate plate and mounting screws.
Two models are offered for these slides - the V1 has diagonal teeth with illumination cutouts on the front, and the V2 has a hexagonal "geoscale" design. As we mentioned earlier, there are versions for Gen 3 and Gen 4 weapons.
